We've had an outbreak of LICE!
I have four kids in school and that's not something I want to deal with.
Head lice is not fun to deal with, it really creeps me out and even worse how they are often treated with chemical-based products in order to quickly get rid of them
. These chemicals are full of neurotoxins and carcinogens and they are placed on their heads, the closest place to their developing brains. Double YIKES!
When you put chemicals on your scalp, they are absorbed immediately into your body
and into your bloodstream. Children are especially vulnerable, plus they're more likely to pick up lice.
Essential oils are a non-toxic, safe alternative for getting rid of head lice. Studies have shown that therapeutic grade essential oils effectively kill both lice and their eggs.
Infestations of lice can range from mild to severe. I've listed below a range of alternatives depending on the severity of the infestation.
It's also important to identify the source and to apply essential oils on the surrounding areas, clothing, bedding, combs, brushes and other potential locations the lice can be passed on to others.
Mild: Mix the following and apply enough to cover the scalp:
10 drops Lemon
10 drops Melaleuca
2 tablespoons drops carrier oil
Let stand for at least 30 minutes. Shampoo with good quality shampoo with 2-5 drops of Melaleuca added to a teaspoon of shampoo. Follow with the Melaleuca shampoos daily for the following week.
Moderate: Use the above protocol but double the Melaleuca and after the application cover the head with a shower cap for 30-60 minutes.
Follow this with a careful combing with a lice comb.
Repeat daily until no signs of lice are visible.
Continue with Melaleuca shampoos daily for a minimum of a week.
Severe: Mix the following and apply to the scalp every night for a week:
20 drops Eucalyptus
10 drops Geranium
10 drops Lavender
10 drops Melaleuca
2 tablespoons carrier oil
Comb with a lice comb then cover with a shower cap for the night. Be careful to protect the eyes from any oils. Follow the next morning with a good quality shampoo with 2-5 drops of Melaleuca added to a teaspoon of shampoo.
