One of the first things I started hearing about, after I began using essential oils, was diffusers. Not having been familiar with diffusers in the past, I was curious what this was and how one would work with essential oils.
Simply put, Diffusion is the process of dispersing essential oils so that their aroma fills a room or an area.
There are multiple ways to diffuse an oil into a room and I will share them with you first.
With this method, you simply add a few drops of oil to a tissue and wave it through the room. The aroma doesn't spread well and won't last long in the given space. However, this can be a nice alternative if you are somewhere and you don't have access to a more formal diffuser.
Cupping Hand Diffusion:
For this method, simply place a drop of oil on your palm, rub your hands together, cup them around your mouth and nose and breathe deeply. This method is great for an immediate aromatic experience. Lavender is one that works very well for this. It only works for the person doing it and doesn't spread the aroma much beyond that space.
Boil 2 cups of water, remove from heat and place in bowl. Add several drops of oil. This is a method to quickly disperse the essential oil aroma into the room, the aroma is not exceptionally long-lasting. Additionally, the heat may alter or destroy certain constituents of the oils and thus they may not be as optimal as using cold-air diffusion methods.
