Natural Solutions to Spring Clean your Car

blog_car Your car deserves a little extra TLC this spring, and you'll love these tips and recipes for getting your car to look its best! Let's start with the exterior:

Wild Orange Car Wash

  • 1 gallon water
  • 1/4 cup Castile Soap
  • 10 drops Wild Orange Essential oil
Fill a bucket with the water and soap, stir until mixed and then add the essential oil and stir again. Using a soft cloth or sponge, wash the exterior of your car from top down, one section at a time. Rinse each area well with clean water before the soap has a chance to dry. Next, let's clean those tires:

Tire Wash

  • 2 cups Baking Soda
  • 1/2 cup Water
  • 1/4 cup Liquid Castile Soap
  • 2 cups Vinegar or Lemon Juice
  • 5 drops Lemon oil
Combine baking soda, water, and soap in a bucket or other container. Add the vinegar and essential oil(s) and mix well. Apply with a brush to get in between the tire treads. Wash one tire at a time, rinsing each before moving on to the next. For the windows, both inside and out, you can use this Mirror and Window cleaner:

  • 2 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons white vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons rubbing alcohol
  • 5 drops peppermint essential oil
Add ingredients to a spray bottle and shake well. Spray windows or mirrors and wipe dry. Moving to the interior, use this mild, natural cleaner for your upholstery:

Cloth Upholstery Cleaner

  • 3 cups hot water
  • 1/2 c. Borax
  • 5 drops Lemon Essential Oil
Mix in a spray bottle. Wet a microfiber cloth and rub over your upholstery, cleaning any particular spots.

Carpet Care

Remove mats and spray them down well with a hose and hang somewhere to dry. Mix 2 drops of Wild Orange and 2 drops Wintergreen with 1/2 cup of Baking Soda. Sprinkle on all the carpet and let sit for 10-15 minutes. Vacuum well, going with the grain of the carpet. Finally, let's clean your dashboard. Mix 10 drops Cedarwood Essential Oil with 1/2 cup coconut oil. Use a clean cloth to rub the coconut oil into the cloth and then rub all over your dashboard and similar surfaces in your car. Once your mats are dry, place them back in and your car is ready for all the warm weather activities you have planned! Don't forget to run it into to get serviced as well!
