Natural Tips for Beating Sugar Cravings

If you've ever tried to stick to a diet or health plan, you know that one of the biggest ways your efforts can be sabotaged is sugar! Willpower alone can only hold those pesky cravings off for so long. What do you do? 

What causes these cravings?

There can be multiple causes for sugar cravings. Perhaps you didn't eat enough at your last meal and your body is confusing mild hunger with a sugar craving. It can also happen more often if you have too many carbs and not enough protein to keep a balance. And sometimes, more often than not, it is triggered by a habit or an emotional connection. In these cases, it has nothing to do with a physical need to eat, but rather an emotional one. 

Knowing where your cravings are stemming from is an important step to overcoming them.

Here are some other ideas you can do, in addition to using the essential oils:

Take a Walk

Get outside, in the fresh air and start moving. Its a great way to get your mind off the need for the particular craving. It will lift your spirits, burn some calories and leave you feeling uplifted and energized. Bonus: Add a drop of Wild Orange Essential Oil to your wrist and rub together as you head out the door.

Take a Hot Shower

Get the shower hot, not too hot that it burns you, but hot enough to let the steam really build up. Stand in the shower for at least 10 minutes, letting the hot water run over your back. By the time you are ready to get out, you will feel relaxed. The craving will most likely be the last thing on your mind. Bonus: Add a drop of Peppermint Essential Oil as you step in. The aroma from the oils, mixed with the steam, will give you an invigorating experience.

Drink Water

Fill up your favorite glass or stainless steel water bottle and sip it slowly. Often when a craving hits, you are actually more dehydrated than hungry. Bonus: Add a drop of Lemon Essential Oil or other favorite.
